Philosophy and motto.

The story of Flat Land Archery begins in the early 80ties. One kid full of dreams and one old outdors magazine. One bow made by my grandfather and the time spent in the woods. My whole life I am in love with the magic of the bow and arrow. This is something which chose me and I chose to be. The archer and bowyer. From using bare bows to using compounds, from making bare bows to making compounds. From competition to organizing the tournaments and courses, every day was and still is connected with archery. On that path I met so many great people and big names which helped me to shape my archery skills and bowyers qualities. All that led me to become bowyer. Slowlely but shorely, step by step, countles trials and errors, ups and downs make my determination more and more powerful. And finally before some fifteen years ago I made that step. Made my own workshop, gain experience, buy machines and tools and strarting to make traditional fiberglass laminated bows. My romantic and artistic propensity was a significant sign that I will find myself in traditional archery where I can express my ideas, designs and crafting skills. To be honest everything is subordinated to perfomances of the bows but if you ask me if the bow is not beautiful it is just not finished.

Each bow from F.L. Archery workshop is made from the best of the best materials. Every piece of wood is carefully chosen with its aesthetics, texture and features to meet the highest standards in terms of quality and performance but also a beauty. All other materials and the process of making are a result of long research, well-thought-out ideas, and compliance with standards in the archery industry. But all this is just a material-technical part that is an integral and necessary part of every quality product. For the specially class, the product needs something more. Fully handmade work from idea to paper and to the finished bow. I made your bow according to your desires and characteristics in details. And this is what will distinguish your future bow among all others. Fully custom hand made bow. What gives him life is the passion with which every detail is made, the true life energy invested in every part of each process.

PRODUCTS

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced archer, you need to know the possibilities and the offer of the F.L.Archery workshop and how to choose a bow for you and your needs from the multitude of offers. This manual is intended to make that job easier for you and guide you through all the details. In front of you is a table with 12 segments, as an example of ordering a bow with all its details and characteristics that make your bow unique and give us the necessary information about what exactly you want and what kind of bow you would like to have.

Type of bow

1. TD. Recurve or
2.Hybrid long bow

The first information concerns the model or type of bow.

We makes two types of bows. Both are in the so-called take down (TD. Take Down) or three piece version or a bow with the possibility of detaching the limbs. But the choice of the limb types makes them to be diferent types of bows.The first type is recurve.These bows are shorter, faster and more aggressive but litle more difficult to control and require a more practice.

If speed, hunting, and 3D. and smaller size are your priority then this is the bow for you.

The second is the hybrid long bow.This is a longer bow and does not have such an aggressive bend at the end of the limbs, but its limbs are slightly bent along the entire length. It is a combination of a classic longbow with straight imbs and a recurve bow.They are somewhat slower but easier to control, or as we say, more forgiving for mistakes. This bow combines the best of both worlds.

2. Lenngth of the bow

Revurve 58`` ,60``

You can choose different lengths of the bows.

For the recurve 58” and 60”

For the hybrid longbow 60” 62” and 66”

It is only a personal choice which length you will chose. We recommend to ask yourself what will be the main pourpose of the bow. Short recurve is great for hunting and 3D competition, tight space and speed. Hybrid long bow is great for competition, target shooting and precision. Of course you can use either one for both purposes but every type of these bows are the best in their specific fields.

3. Strenght of the bow

Bows are made from 25# to 65# in 5# increments range.

That poundage is measured at 28”(inches) of draw length but your draw may be longer or shorter than that.

That is why it is important to tell us the strength of the bow for your draw length.

In other words that is how strong the bow will be at your draw length.

We can make poundage to within 2 to 3 pounds plus or minus which means

if you were looking for a bow from 45 pounds it can be in the 42 to 48 pounds range.

Of course, we always try to make it as close as possible to the required strength.

That information is written as follows: 45#@28`` which means that the bow is 45 pounds at 28” inches of draw length. If you have a draw length of let s say 30 inches and you want a bow to be 40 pounds then you write like this 40#@30``.

There are also two different standards by which this is measured. One is AMO. (Archery manufacturers organisation) and the other is ADL.(Actual draw length) or TDL.(True draw length). So it is necessary to emphasize that when choosing the poundage.

The AMO. standard is shorter, ie. it is measured from the back of the bow until string reach to the 28” of draw length. It is shorter by 1.75 inches or 1 ¾ inches from ADL. Standard. In poundage it is about 5# difference compared to ADL. Which means if you want your bow to be 40# @29'' by AMO. that means it will be about 45#@29'' by ADL. standard and vice versa..

4. Draw length.

Bows are suitable for draw length from 25" to 32".

You need to know the exact length of your draw length in order to be sure that I can

make a bow according to your specifications.

If you do not know this information, you must then measure your draw length. See the instructions at the end of the text.

Also described are the standards according to which It is very simple and easy to measure.

Draw length is expressed in inches in the whole numbers or half numbers. Let's say 28.5'' or 29''.

If it's somewhere in between, round it to the nearest number and that will be enough for me to make a

bow in the optimum for your draw length and get a uniform flow of increasing power without a stacking.

5. Type of riser and orientation of the riser

(left handed LH. or right handed RH)

Straight laminated, radius, two-radius and curly type of riser lamination. RH or LH riser cut out configuration-orientation.

When selecting the riser configuration , you only need to say RH. or LH.

which means RH for right-handed and LH for left-handed.

To avoid confusion, right-handed people hold the bow with their left hand and pull

the string with their right hand, and vice versa.

We make four types of riser laminations, and the choice comes down to what your heart tells you,

ie. which one do you like the most.

The first type is straight or straight glued.This is the simplest model,

which does not mean that it lags behind the others in anything. It simply requires less work and fitting and is therefore the less expensive.When the materials are well matched, this type of riser can be very interesting.

The second type is radius. This type of riser is more dynamic and allows for slightly more varied combinations.

And it is beautiful even if it is made of the same wood with only two lamellas of micarta,

which stiffens it and at the same time gives it a beautiful appearance.

The third type of riser is two radius. The more complicated type of lamination.

It allows countless combinations and looks very attractive. It is the very popular choice.

The fourth type of riser lamination is the curly riser. The most complicated but very dynamic, strong construction, flowles lines, very striking look and apearnance. This seems to be the most popular one.

There are also mosaic variants of middle riser beams (two types of contrasting wood) in the first two types of risers.You will find more about it at the end of this text..

6. Cutting the shelf

Cut to the center, in the center, through the center and offset.

There are four types.

Cut to the center.

This type is the most classic and provides the greatest thickness of the riser window as

well as its strength but it looks for the most precisely adjusted arrows and is the least resistant to incorrect

holding or torque-twisting of the riser in the hand. It is cut 2 mm from the center.

The second type is cut on the center.

It is more tolerant for arrows that are not 100% dynamically spined and more accurate for shooting.

However, it is structurally weaker and requires reinforcement.

The third type is cut pass center or cut over the center by 3mm.

It is even more tolerant of poorly spined arrows, but requires the most stiffening.

The fourth type is an offset or flat riser extended and additionally stiffened on the other side of the window.

It is also called a total center shoot and it is cut to 5mm over half the thickness of the riser.

This is the most tolerant variant of a poorly adjusted dynamic arrow spine,

but it requires the most complicated manufacturing process.

We recommend this type of riser because the bow with it is

the most tolerant of bad arrow spine and the most accurate one. .

7. Types of wood and artificial materials

Darker combination, lighter combination,
(chose specific types if you already know in advance)Black or brown micarta

Aluminum honeycomb (black, red and red black)
We constantly have numerous species of natural wood and artificial materials like
techno wood, SaRaiFo wood, micarta, stabil core, carbon etc.

send us a picture of which of our bow you like so we can know which combination of materials you wish.

8. Type of rest

leather (specify color)
furry

We offer two types, one is a leather rest in any color and the other is a fur rest

it can be brown black or pure brown rest.

This is a matter of personal choice and we recommend fur as the arrow slides over it more easily.

9. Type of fiberglass and wedge in the limbs

The first is the selection of the fiberglass itself, with which all the limbs are made.
We use two types of fiberglass. Black fiberglass and clear transparent fiberglass
from the long-proven company Bearpaw-Iso sport.
If transparent is used, there is a possibility to choose inlay layers.
Those are very thin layers of decorative veneers that go under the transparent fiberglass.
They are usually exotic and colorful types of wood, but even a beautiful walnut is no less attractive.
We always have a variety of veneers to choose from,
and if you choose transparent and want a veneer underneath, all you have to do is yes.
Specify which type of wood you want from the list at the end of this text.
We always use bamboo in the core of the limbs. As the most colorful and lightest natural material, it is ideal for limbs.
We have two types, one is caramelized bamboo, which is brown in color
the other is natural bamboo or white bamboo and it is the color of white coffee so you can choose
depending on of the rest of the bow which will fit better.
Often, only bamboo and fiberglass is the choice, and it also looks nice under transparent fiberglass.
Another possibility is an additional layer in the core itself, i.e. layer for lateral stiffening of the limb
in the form of a very thin special type of fiberglass. It is called stabil core.
It creates a thin black line and always fits into any combination as far as looks are concerned.
An additional option is decorative tiles for washers (inlay and mosaic).
It is also possible to choose the mosaic tips on the limbs.
You will find more detailed information about this at the end of the text.

10. Tiler
Mediterranean (positive) tiler or three under (neutral) tiler.

This information is abouth the method of tillering, or in other words, the method of tillering the limbs.

Depending on the style of pulling and releasing the string,

the limbs must be adjusted as needed so they would do their job without unnecessary stress, vibration and noise.

This is important information for us because it tells us which limb to leave stronger or to make both equal in strength.

If, for example, you shoot mediterranean style or split finger style, then the upper limb remains weaker by some

value (depends on the construction of the bow and the ratio of shelves, pivot point in the grip, etc...) and we call it a positive tiller.

If you use three under style then the limb must be the same strength or a neutral tiller.

11. String

Single color, two color, three color, dacron, FF+, double flemish, triple flemish style.

Although it doesn't seem like it, the string it is a very important part of the bow.

Much depends on the quality of the string, as well as on the material from which it is made and

how well it is made. We make strings from Dacron B50 or B55, which is actually 100% polyester.

This is still a very popular material and it has a higher degree of stretching and is more pleasant

for the bow itself because it absorbs some of the energy. With it, the bow is less noisy, but it stretches more,

so it is necessary to adjust the brace on the bow more often, and it lasts less than other more modern materials.

Also, the bow is about 5+fps slower with this string.

Another material we use is from the family of so-called FF. (Fast Fly) materials.

For Flat Land Workshop, Spectra 652 from BCY which belongs to the FF+ third generation string material,

performed best.The generic name is HMPE or high modulus polyethylene.

You can choose single color or two color (black and white)

and in the dacron variant you can chose a tricolor material for the string (any color).

We also make them as double or triple flemish style strings.

12. Finishing

Matte, high gloss or Tru Oil.

As we want our bows to look beautiful, we also want them to stay that way for many years even
when they used in the most difficult conditions.
That's why we use the highest quality liquid epoxy resin and PU. varnish composite protection.
You can choose between a high gloss or matte finish. Our personal recommendation is matte a finish.
But you can choose whatever you like. There is no difference between the quality of those two.
It is just a look you like more.
Also, if someone wants the old type of protection with oil, we use it too.
The highest quality Tru Oil protects the wood and all other parts of the bow very well too.

DRAWING STYLE, TILLER OF THE BOW

In general, the F.L.Archery workshop tiller its bows for the two most common styles in archery.
The first is the so-called Mediterranean style or split fingers. One finger - the index finger - is above the arrow and two fingers - the middle and ring finger - are below the arrow.
Another style is the so-called three under or three fingers under the arrow. To me, as a bowyer, it means how to make limbs, or how to distribute the power and mass in them so that the bow will work nicely with different points and load vectors of the limbs across different finger positions on the string.
The thing here is that you have to decide for yourself because it's hard to say which style is better. It is a personal preference. If you are a beginner and don't know anything about it, I will tell you that split finger style leads the way in terms of number of users, and that is my personal recommendation in general. Whether you are a beginner or not.

Another style is the so-called three under or three fingers under the arrow.

HOW TO MEASURE DRAW LENGTH

We have already mentioned that there are two standards for the draw length.
When you measure your true draw length or actual araw length ADL. you just need to add 1.75 (1 ¾) inches to that measurement if you are using the AMO standard and that's it. You will see how to measure your draw length in the picture below.

Measure your arm span in iches and divide the result by 2.5.
For example. you got a result of 70.5 inches. Divide this number by 2.5 as in the picture. And you get 28.2 inch. Your actual draw length is 28 inches. (rounded to the nearest round number).
Whatever draw weight you want you have to emphasize it according to which standard.
If, for example, you want weight of the bow to be 45#@28``on the ADL standard you write 45#@28``ADL. and you have finished the job.
According to the AMO standard, such a same bow would be weaker by about 5#, ie. would be about 40#@28``. If you want it to be 45#@28``but according to the AMO standard, simply write 45#@28``AMO. i.e. emphasize by what standard and the job is done.

HAND- FIST MEASUREMENTS

The measurement of the hand is very important for making the grip fits you perfectly. For making the most accurate castom grip.

With the help of these pictures you will easily do it.

Follow the order as explained in the pictures and enter the measurements in the given table in the bow ordering segment.

Try to position the hand exactly as in the picture and express the measurements in millimeters or inches if you are not familiar with metric mesurments.

Always measure from the middle of the wrist, i.e. from the black dots marked on the picture itself.

Prices of the bows

-Due to the very wide range of options and amount of work, materials and combinations, finish options, prices of our bows are also in the vide range.
-For example the simplest riser with straight lams all made out of domestic wood (walnut, ash, oak) or with one middle lam out of some contrast wood with standard black or brown micarta reinforcment-accent stripes belonging in the standard-start price.
-Radius laminated riser is plus 25$ and two radius laminated riser is plus 50$ . The most complicated curved one is 75$ more.
-Transparent- clear glass limbs or black glass limbs with caramelized bamboo or natural white bamboo with matched vedges in the core is in the standard price options. With addition of stabil core and some inlay veneers price is 20$ to 90$ plus which depends of the used inlay veneers price.
-Price starts from 500USD to 999USD .
-The prices of all additional options like some mozaic lams, usual or rare exotic woods, mosaic limb pads etc. is charged from 50$ to 250$

Performance

According to the standard of 9gpp our bows are tested for speed of the arrow. Mentioned 9gpp and 28” draw length. All our bows are between 180 fps to 195 fps.
No hand shock, no stack, no noise. I am especially and extremely proud on this characteristics and I will continue to improve them as long as it possible.

Shiping and shiping prices

Prices of the bows depend of the amount of work and costs of the used materials. So range of the prices must be shown as the right calculation between those factors in order to satisfy you as a customer and me as bowyer. The start price for the simplest form of bow is 500 US.$ till 999 US.$ plus shipment ( via FedEx ) wich is around 130-150$ to US. and 50-120 EUR. to Europe.

Payment

For all foreigner customers PayPal is the way of payment. Half price (50%) in advance and other part when you get the bow in your hands. Simple as that. If you are not satisfide with the bow can be returned in 15 days with 50% of the money back. In that case unfortunately the shipment costs is also yours.

Guarantee

Two years, of course with proper usage.

All possible problems you might have are our problems too. Call us, we will do all what is in our power to solve it.

How to adjust brace hight? Which one is recomended?

Every bows has its sweet spots. Brace is not some fixed number. It can only be recommended in some range. Because we do not know which arrows you will use, wich type of string, how much weihgt on silencers etc... All that can affect brace high a little bit. Of corse we will recomend some numbers where we are certain you will find the sweet spot. And that will be from 7” to 8 1/2” inches.

Arrow Shelf

All F.L. bows are cut at the center or cut pass center.According to your wish. This has plenty of influence to the range of spine sensitivity of the arrow and generally to the precision. Bows which is cutted pass of the center is cutted to 1/6 of an inch or 4mm pass center.

Finish of the bows

Chosing good finish is not enough. That is a must. Chosing the best posible finish is our goal. Finish of the bow is very important for bouth of us. Once the bow left the shop we must be sure that finish will protect our hard work. That will protect the beauty of the bow, his performance and function. And you of course must have full trust in the bow in your hands. Whether you use the bow indoor or in the hardest hunting situations. Year after year, usage after usage. That is why we researched for several years and tried dozens od products until we found ultimate varnish. It will not crack, it will not fade, it will not change the color. It is UV. proof and has great mechanical damage resistance. If you like your bow to be oil protected then our choice and experience will lead us to the best Tru Oil. This is a long time ago proven product and it is also a choice for best gunsmith shops used for protecting best wooden butt stocks.

Handle

We pay special attention to the handles. Pistol type self located open grip can be used for the majority of users. But the same customized grip will fit perfectly for you. We developed special five lines measurements of your hand and according to numbers we are able to make small but very important adjustments and fit it to your hand like you are born with. We know and we learn how much handle can affect your impression of the bow, how much handle can improve the accuracy and how bad it can be when you use bad handle over a longer period of time. Every Flat Land Archery bow is made with the customized handle and guess what? It is the part of the start price for the bow. No extra charge.
